Seven Ways Digital Health could Combat the Coronavirus

The first person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus was confirmed in the US yesterday. Betsy McCaughey, chairman of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths, tells WSJ that the US hospitals are not ready. 

How can Digital Health help combating the global outbreak? Dr. Emre Sezgin and I at Nationwide Children’s Hospital have done some research to look at the emerging technologies and lessons learned from previous outbreaks of SARS, MERS and TB. Here is a summary.

Many core technologies of digital health, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Electronic Health Records (EHR), and Big Data can be used to fight the epidemic. However, there are huge legal, ethical, social and regulatory challenges when applying these emerging technologies.
